Track 3: Silver City

Silver City was born during an ad hoc jam with Alexius, when he first joined the band. It started off as a song about my grandpa who passed away 3 years ago. My dad didn’t get to see him as much because he was in a different country, and I didn’t get to see either of them much, because all three of us were in different countries. That situation spurred me on to develop the lyrics into a narrative of a man who’s on his deathbed, wishing to correct regrets, which he can’t.

I’ve been everywhere,
On a back of a van
And the stories I will tell
Are things I’ve tasted

Whilst they look in admiration,
I feel an empty glee
Though my wanderlust I’m sure
I have placated

And the life,
I have lived
And the people,
I’ve forsaken
Are but photographs in front of me
Tonight

When the silver city calls you
There won’t be a place to hide
Lord I wish I’d seen your face
Just one last time
Though I know it’s time for me to die
I just can’t say goodbye
And those pearly gates are closing fast behind

Well I’ve seen everything
More than twice
Just for fun
And I’ve given up the time
I gave my son.

I was happy
For a while
But it’s hard to keep that smile
Though I’ve earned enough to live that life I wanted

And the life,
I have lived
And the people,
I’ve forsaken
Are but photographs in front of me
Tonight

When the silver city calls you
There won’t be a place to hide
Lord I wish I’d seen your face
Just one last time
Though I know it’s time for me to die
I just can’t say goodbye
And those pearly gates are closing fast behind.

Oh lord,
The moon is red
Tonight

When the silver city calls you
There won’t be a place to hide
Lord I wish I’d seen your face
Just one last time
Though I know it’s time for me to die
I just can’t say goodbye
And those pearly gates are closing fast behind

Lord I’m coming home.
